Baseball scoring follows a simple principle: teams score runs by having batters reach base and advance around to home plate. Most games feature 9 innings, with each inning having a top half (away team bats) and bottom half (home team bats). Extra innings occur when teams are tied after 9 innings, continuing until one team leads at the end of a complete inning.

The MLB schedule features games every day from April through September, with each team playing approximately 27 games per month. Most games start in the evening between 6-8 PM local time, though afternoon games are common on weekends. Thursday getaway days and Sunday night baseball create schedule variations throughout the week.
